The Sheepdogs

While taking cues from ’70s rock touchstones, The Sheepdogs’ Learn & Burn is an innovative update of a classic sound. From the subdued intro of “The One You Belong To” to the winding guitars on “Southern Dreaming,” the album delivers track after track of timeless songwriting. Mixed by Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog), Learn & Burn offers a tip of the hat to acts such as Moby Grape and James Gang while delivering stacked harmonies, moody keys, and twin guitars.
After securing the reputation as the most exciting band to see in their hometown of Saskatoon (and being voted favourite local band by the readers of Planet S magazine), The Sheepdogs have taken their show on the road, touring from coast to coast in Canada and into the US. They have opened for Matt Mays, the Arkells and Tricky Woo, and have played at Junofest, the Western Canadian Music Awards, and the Red Gorilla Festival in Austin, TX. They have already independently released two full-length albums, Trying to Grow and The Sheepdogs’ Big Stand. Both albums have charted on Earshot’s national monthly top 200 chart, with The Sheepdogs’ Big Stand also charting on college radio stations across the US. In the fall of 2009, The Sheepdogs’ Big Stand was nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award for Independent Album of the Year, and the band was nominated for Artist of the Year on XM radio’s The Verge.
Learn & Burn picks up where The Sheepdogs’ Big Stand left off, featuring a collection of upbeat rockers with wailing guitars, struttin’ 60’s organs and congas, acoustic guitars and campfire harmonies. To support the album, the group is hitting the road, playing a slot at Canadian Music Week, and touring across North America.
